Each member nation of the 71 Commonwealth states was invited to enter one or two teams to the :

Teams could consist of up to six members. The entry fee was £1000 per team. The event took the form of a round robin qualifying stage with the leading teams in each section progressing to a head-to-head knockout matches that identified the Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winners.
The final of the 4th Commonwealth Bridge Championship proved to be one-sided as the Chairman’s team, Paul Hackett, David Bakhshi, Jason Hackett, David Mossop, Justin Hackett, Andrew McIntosh, cruised to a comfortable victory over Wales.
Wales — Gary Jones, John Salisbury, Mike Tedd, Patrick Jourdain, Tim Rees, Tony Ratcliff. England defeated India in the playoff, who join them on the podium. England — Ben Green, Cameron Small, John Holland, Phil King. India — Ashish Malhotra, Hemant K Jalan, Kaustubh Bendre, Kaustabh Nandi, Sandip Datta, S Thakral
The Open Pairs was won by Andrew McIntosh and David Bakhshi.
In an exciting final of the Transnational Swiss Teams the Scottish President’s team was victorious over Canada by 70-60. The Scots were: Sandy Duncan, Irving Gordon, Derek Sanders, Stephen Peterkin, Liz McGowan, Sam Punch.
