The Israel Bridge Federation has just announced (at 1.30 p.m. Israel time on Saturday, September 5) that Israel will not compete in the upcoming 2015 Bermuda Bowl, to be held in Chennai, India.  In a letter to World Bridge Federation head Ginaarrigo Rona,  IBF chairman Gilad Ofir, said that the decision had been reached by the IBF management and four members of the team — Alon Birman, Dror Padon, Ilan and Ophir Herbst.brogeland fisher schwartz

In his letter, Ophir said that the decision was made “in light of the recent events and the resulting acrid atmosphere with regard to the legitimacy of the Israel team’s participation in the Bermuda Bowl.”  The decision, Ofir emphasized, does not reflect on the guilt or innocence of Ron Schwartz and Lotan Fisher, two members of the team that qualified for the BB and won the European Championship last year.
