1st European Winter Games: Results and Bulletins

Zimmermann Cup Final

Black vs Zimmermann

BLACK:  BLACK, HALLBERG, WHITTAKER, BERTHEAU, KING, McINTOSH

ZIMMERMANN: ZIMMERMANN, MULTON, HELGEMO, HELNESS, MARTENS, FILIPOWICZ

Today, during the final, the Winter Games will not present any song by Beyonce, Lady Gaga or Coldplay but the attendance at 10.00 on BBO is sure to reach a peak. We must confess we expected a final between Lavazza and Zimmermann, but that is not the case. Lavazza had first to do without their new coach Maurizio Di Sacco.

Then, almost as important, they had to play four handed after Agustin Madala had to leave due to health problems, so Norberto Bocchi partnered Alejandro Bianchedi. The Black team seized the moment and defeated one of the favourites. In today’s final, they face Zimmermann, armed with their Norwegian anchor pair and both Multon and Martens able to play with two different partners. So, it looks like team Zimmermann could put their hands on the eponymous cup.

However, as we discovered yesterday, you had better not count your chickens before they have hatched! The curtain will go down around 8 PM. By the way, our second contest delivered no winner as everyone predicted Lavazza would be first or second. In BAM A Era are leading but with 46 boards to play there are 92 points available, so the race is still wide open. The BAM B teams will play 34 boards today.

Maurizzio Di Sacco Lavazza team coach farewell:

This is the end our many friends. Black played brilliantly and earned its spot in the tomorrow’s final. We wish our opponents good luck, as well as to the members of team Zimmermann, which also qualified. It was fun and we enjoed our time at the bridge table and away from it. We all would like to express our best wishes to Agustin for a prompt recovery, and we hope that the entire bridge community will join in. See you soon.
