The Cavendish is the largest money bridge tournament in the world. In 2012 it moved from Las Vegas to Monaco and from May to October. Since 2017, it is held in February. Open teams, open pairs tournaments are held.

The qualifying rounds of the Cavendish have given their verdict: the American team of Zia Mahmood (John Hurd, Steve Weinstein, Vince Demuy) has finished top and will play the semi-final this morning against the British team of David Mossop, with the Hackett family who finished fourth. The other semi-final sees the Zimmermann team oppose England’s Charles Wigoder team. This is quite a surprise, since the Lavazza team, who were finalists two years ago, failed to make the last four. An exciting day for all starting at 10 am. The day will finish late since, after the Teams final, we will open the auction for the Pairs event during a cocktail served in the salons of the Meridien. The bidding will probably reach a high level, given the number of participants – 66 pairs of which some Ladies invited to the Open since we have had to shelve the Ladies’ event. We will be particularly interested to follow Zia Mahmood and Steve Weinstein, Jean-Charles Allavena’s favorites, and why not, Christina Lund Madsen, the Danish champion of Europe Mixte with her Team partner Ton Bakkeren. A very interesting auction in store for us !
