The last few days have been exciting, with strong competition, excellent food and great company. While our home for the Great American Bridge Tour this week is the Pompano Beach Club, the Bermuda Regional is played at the Fairmont Southampton Princess. The host venue is a beautiful hotel, resting on one hundred acres atop a ridge that allows for a magnificent view of both the Atlantic Ocean and the Great Sound. After a long day of play, the ability to enjoy a bit of cheer while standing on the balcony overlooking the waves soothes the soul.

Katrina Van Pelt leads a host of locals who ensure a superb tournament experience for those who travel to the smallest country in North America. High Tea between sessions is always a pleasure, and ample opportunity exists for the novice to rub elbows with many fine players from North America and Europe. These gatherings generate an environment of acceptance and connection that envelopes all those who participate, erasing the lines that differing skill and experience levels often create.

The engraved names on the perpetual trophies that celebrate the history of the  championship events include many of the great players of the world past and present: Goren, Sobel, Murray, Kaplan, Molson, Passell, Rosenkranz, Solomon, Coon, Stayman, Rapee – the roll goes on and on.

Most assuredly, many future greats will pass this way and with any luck at all, more than a few will repeat their journey
