September 7

Banikas-Kapagiannidi topped the Mixed pairs winning the second session with 64%. Versace-Moneta had to be satisfied with the second place, while in the third place we had Tocsan-Falay.

Versace-Moneta

It is interesting to note that we had two Greek juniors in the top four places, with the second one being Giannis Ikonomopoulos (in pair with an Italian Junior, Botta).  It is a special pleasure to see the daughter of Thanos Kapagiannidis winning in such an event – after all Thanos, apart from a great champion, was a part of the director’s team of this event for many years, and a great friend to all of us.

Fisher-Schwartz
Fisher-Schwartz won both the third session and the overall event.

September 5: Open Pairs

FIRST WINNERS: Fisher-Schwartz continued their excellent performances and won both the third session and the overall event.

In second place we had O. Bessis-P. Seguinau, slightly ahead of Versace-Fruscoloni who won the bronze. In general, apart from the first place, the battle for the other medals was really fierce, and the difference between 3rdand 4th place (M. Bessis-E. Gautret) was less than 0.12%.

2003 World Wide Bridge Contest: Board 36 by Eric Kokish

This combination is particularly difficult for East because if there is a slam he believes it may be best in diamonds, but if there is no slam he'd like to play in hearts, for the extra 10 points a trick.
