2015 & 2016 World Youth Championships

The 4th World Youth Open Championships will be held in Opatija, Croatia from 20th – 29th August.

The WBF President Gianarrigo Rona, the Croatian Bridge Federation President Jurica Caric and the Opatija Bridge Association President Goran Grguric signed the agreement (pictured left).

Opatija was the very successful host to the 2nd edition of these Championships in 2011 and has in addition hosted several other world and European events including including the 2014 European Teams Championship and the 2014 University World Championship. This wonderful town by the Gulf of Kvarner Gulf on the Adriatic Coast is ready once again to welcome all the young bridge players to enjoy another marvelous bridge adventure.

The Championships will consist of three events:

  • The World Pairs Championship;
  • The World Teams Swiss/KO Championship; and
  • The World Teams Board-A-Match Championship.

There are four categories of players, Juniors, Girls, Youngsters & Kids, and there will be medals awarded in each category. The events are open to all players born on or after 1st January 1990 for the Juniors & Girls categories, born on or after 1st January 1995 for the Youngsters category and born on or after 1st January 2000 for the Kids category, in good standing with their own NBO.

The players must be members (not necessarily nationals) of the Federation NBO through which they enter.

2016 World Youth Teams Championships

The 16th World Youth Teams Championship will be held in Salsomaggiore Terme from 3rd – 13th August 2016. A Press Conference was held on 31st October at the City Hall during which the Mayor Filippo Frittelli, the WBF President Gianarrigo Rona and the FIGB President Gianni Medugno officially announced the event and signed the contract (pictured from the left, President Medugno, President Rona, Mayor Frittelli and Sports Councillor Isetti).
