Greco is 2016 Player of the Year

Unofficial totals following the Fall NABC show that Eric Greco of Wynnewood PA is the winner of the 2016 Player of the Year contest, awarded to the player who earns the most platinum points in a calendar year. Greco’s total of 800.94 puts him just ahead of Jeff Meckstroth with 778.26. The Daily Bulletin incorrectly reported earlier this week that Meckstroth had the contest wrapped up following his wins in the Baze Senior KO and the Kaplan Blue Ribbon Pairs. But because Meckstroth was allowed by the conditions of contest to drop into the semifinal round of the Blue Ribbon Pairs, he is allowed to keep the higher of the masterpoint awards from the two events, not awards from both.

Greco wins Goren Trophy

Eric Greco won the most masterpoints at the Fall NABC in Orlando to capture the Goren Trophy, awarded annually to the player who accomplishes that feat. Greco’s total included 150 masterpoints for his second-place finish in the Reisinger, 78.75 for his third-place finish in the Mitchell Open BAM, and 106.88 for finishing third in the Kaplan Blue Ribbon Pairs. Masterpoint leaders: 1. 382.88 Eric Greco 2. 303.63 Michael Kamil 3. 292.20 Geoff Hampson 4. 291.40 John Diamond 5. 285.05 Zia Mahmood 6. 284.71 Stan Tulin 7. 283.15 Kevin Dwyer 8. 278.92 Jacek Kalita 278.92 Michal Nowosadzki 10. 276.25 Brian Platnick 11. 265.39 Michael Becker 265.39 Aubrey Strul 13. 263.22 Dror Padon 14. 260.46 Alon Birman 15. 256.67 Jeff Meckstroth 256.67 Eric Rodwell 17. 243.90 Kevin Bathurst 18. 238.97 Justin Lall 19. 234.20 Richard Coren 20. 233.36 Boye Brogeland 233.36 Espen Lindqvist
