Nickell beats Lewis for Senior KO title

The team led by Nick Nickell, erased a small halftime deficit with a 43-17 third quarter and went on to a 154-125 win over the Paul Lewis squad in the Baze Senior Knockout Teams. Nickell played with Ralph Katz. Their teammates were Jeff Meckstroth, Eric Rodwell, Bob Hamman and Bart Bramley. Paul Lewis played with his wife, Linda, Jim Krekorian, Drew Casen, Mitch Dunitz and Iftikhar Baqai. The victory was the first for Nickell in a NABC Seniors event, his 20th win overall in NABC+ contests. Rodwell now has 60 North American championships to his credit, Meckstroth 59. Bramley is now a three-time winner of the event, having won in 2013 and 2014 Lewis was trailing 53-38 after the first of the four final sets, but rallied to take the short-lived lead.

Becker-Strul set pace in Blue Ribbon Pairs

Mike Becker and Aubrey Strul of Boca Raton FL topped the field in Tuesday’s opening round of the Kaplan Blue Ribbon Pairs. Becker and Strul posted a 68.06% game in the first qualifying session and a 64.27% in the second, placing them just ahead of Richard Reitman, Los Gatos CA, and Mark Dahl, Richmond VA. In third are Fu Zhong and Jie Li of Beijing.
