Eythorsdottir, Becker lead Nail LM Pairs

Hjordis (Disa) Eythorsdottir and R. Jay Becker will start play today in the Nail Life Master with a carryover lead of about a half board on a top of 64. Eythorsdottir, of New York City, and Becker, of Delray Beach FL, had a 63.01% game in the first qualifying session and followed with a 66.77% effort in the evening session. Their carryover puts them 32.89 matchpoints ahead of the second-place pair, Bernardo Biondo of Rome, Italy, and Alexander Wernle of Vienna, Austria. In third place with two final sessions to play are Marion Michielsen of Stockholm, Sweden, and Zia Mahmood of New York City.

Top seeds cruise in Senior KO

The opening round of the Baze Senior Knockout Teams attracted 24 squads, 16 of which advanced. The top-seeded team led by Nick Nickell and the No. 2 seed captained by Howard Weinstein received byes yesterday, and 14 other teams who survived the first-day challenge will join them in today’s round of 16. Teams seeded No. 3 through No. 7 played headto-head matches against the lowest seeds in the event, and they all advanced. The remaining 12 squads played four-way matches, in which three teams advance from each bracket. The highest-seeded team which failed to advance was the No. 14 squad led by Jerry Helms. The lowest-seed to make it to the round of 16 was the No. 19 seed captained by Robert Fendrick.
