Medellin 2016: A lot of heart

May 26 2016, Medellin Colombia

The final of the Southamerican Youth Bridge Teams Championships U 26 was: Argentina vs Colombia.

The final was played over three sets of 12 boards each. After the first 12 boards Argentina had a comfortable lead of about 27 IMPs, which did not last long … In the second set, thanks to several errors, Argentina went on to lose its dominant position to be relegated by … 13 IMPs … This is a hand in which Colombia was able to put a lot of heart to get that 13 IMPs difference.

With a non competitive bidding the players from Colombia in E/W,  arrived to a heart game… and scored without any difficulty +650.

At the other table … the player Valenzuela from Colombia’s team decided not to be so linear and muddied the court … with hearts.

After Crusizio’s opening 1 club bid , North decided to show a good heart lead, and said one heart.

That obliged a pass from Garcia da Rosa, who also passed after his partner reopened the bidding with a double.  Correa chose to save to 2 Diamonds and Da Rosa not let die the bidding saying 2NT, raised by his partner to 3NT.

After a diamond lead, declarer could do nothing to lose three diamonds, two hearts and a club for two down …

I could not help remembering a song by Luis Miguel…one of its verses says …

no llames corazón
lo que tú tienes…
Do not call heart
What you have

To which Venezuela must had answered with another verse of the same song:

Yo para querer
no necesito una razón
me sobra mucho,
pero mucho corazón…
For me to love
I do not need a reason
I have too much,
but a lot of heart …
