Italy: Teams Trials

Italy since long ago is used to have a Capitan to assemble the teams that will represent the country in the maximum level international events. For many years this methodology has helped Italy to win countless titles, many people have wondered if it was not better that methodology.

However the FIGB (Federazione Italiana Gioco Bridge) just announced the 2014 trials, that are going to be held to select teams to represent the country in the 52th European Teams Championship (Opatija, Croatia, June 21-July 2, 2014) and for the Rosenblum Cup (Sanya, China, October 10 to 26, 2014).

The trials will have two stages.

The first one in Salsomaggiore Terme (from january 31 to Sunday Febreaury 2), with a Swiss format. The second trial will be played in Milan (no date yet), a KO, depending on thge number of teams, semifinals and a la final (4 teams) or only a final (2 teams).

The final will be a 128 boards match (for 4 teams) or 144 boards (for 2 teams).

The winner wil be Italy’s team in Opatija, and the other team will represent Italy in Sanya. The FIGB will pay all the travel expenses: plains, foods, hotels …etc…
