II WMSG, Lille 2012: Lets Row Upstream

Photo Credit BBOItalia (nice II WMSG Lille 2012 Italian chronicle)

Everyone knows that Argentina is passionate about football and that football generates Tifosi, the Italian word to describe a group of fans.  At the end of 2011, River that during its history has only strived to be the argentinian club number 1, had to go to play to second division. Was a national tragedy … After a period of despair came into being a whole new feeling… lets row upstream… one year later River was again in first division. Today watching the second set of the Italy-Turkey match, Board 26 after an auction in which Duboin-Sementa (ITA) declared a Slam … Duboin the declarer after the lead and watching the dummy…must have thought … lets begun rowing upstream.

Lead: 4

Declarer played the A and ruffed a heart in his hand. Duboin decided to find out right away where the A was, played a little spade, North with A Q…played his A… Duboin played the J…Korten returned the 10, Duboin ruffed in his hand with 2 and played the 5 winning the trick with the K, Aker had to play his 10…ty and nice card must have sighed declarer…

Now he played trumps twice, finding out the 3-1 distribution when Korten pitched something red…the 3. Declarer continued with the 2 to the A (Korten played the J) and K, Korten played the Q… For each Korten’s card … declarer repeated himself  this mantra … thanks, thanks and more thanks…

Duboin pitched his 6, and played the 10. Aker decided to ruff with his last trump the 10, declarer played his Q and a second after the 9 was over the table and Duboin claimed 12 trick. In the other room Turkey only played 3NT…so the board generated 12 IMPs to Italy. Next Table shows us what happened in all the other matches.
