Fiona Brown (Yorks) & Helen Erichsen (Kent) have won the trials for the England team for the Lady Milne Trophy, which were held on 22nd to 24th January in London.

They will be joined in the team by Christine Jepson (Sussex) & Catherine Curtis (Cambs & Hunts), who were runners-up in the trial. The team will be completed by a third pair who will be chosen by the Selection Committee. The Lady Milne event takes place in 15th to 17th April in Northern Ireland.

Fiona & Helen finished the six session trial on 110.88 IMPs, with Christine & Catherine on 107.49. Closely behind were Sarah Ewart & Ewa Kater (both London) on 103.78.

Penfold team wins Senior trials

The team of Sandra Penfold (Yorks), David Kendrick (Cambs & Hunts), Patrick Collins (Kent), Norman Selway (Kent) and Colin Simpson (Berks & Bucks) have won the trials to represent England in the European Championships.

They won a head-to-head match against the team of Paul Hackett (Staffs & Shrops), Gunnar Hallberg (London), John Holland (Manchester), David Mossop, David Price (Suffolk) and Brian Senior (Yorks) – both teams qualified from the first stage of the trials in December. The Penfold team took a 32 IMP lead after the first session, and although the size of their advantage fluctuated they were always ahead, ultimately winning the 96 board final by 41 IMPs.

The European Championships take place 16th to 26th June in Budapest.
