Harrell and Cronier win Whiteheadwhite head runner ups

Two solid games on Wednesday gave Emily Harrell and Benedicte Cronier a lock on the winner’s spot in the Whitehead Women’s Pairs even before the last round of play. They qualified second coming into the day. The NABC win is the first for Harrell, from Shoal Creek AL. For Cronier, who hails from Paris, France, it is the sixth championship – her first in a pairs event. Hansa Narasimhan of Los Altos Hills CA and Christina Madsen from Hellerup, Denmark moved from 20th after day one to finish second. Madsen says this is this second time this year she has been bested by Cronier in a major tournament. “Next time I’m playing with you!” she vowed. Closely behind in third were Linda Lewis from Las Vegas NV and Jean Barry from Livermore CA.

Whitehead final

Lien, Brescoll ahead in Blue Ribbon Pairs

Heading into today’s two final rounds of the Kaplan Blue Ribbon Pairs, Owen Lien of Detroit and Zach Brescoll of Charlotte NC hold a carryover lead of just 6.89 matchpoints with top of 38. Their carryover total is 88.92, compared to the 82.03 held by Thomas Bessis and Frederic Volcker, both of France. Two Polish players, Wojciech Gawel and Rafal Jagniewski, start the day in third.
