Chile Rewards its Best 2012 Athletes

For the second consecutive year the President of the Republic of Chile: Sebastián Piñera Echenique and his government received, recognized and rewarded all chilean athletes with international achievements during this year 2012.

These kind of initiatives are consistent with the government’s intention to achieve (in the medium term) Chile being recognized as a country with a well known sports culture. The President in his speech last night said that today Chile isnt  yet recognized as a sports supporter, but that he and his government is working seriously for that.

I was a proud member of the bridge players invited to this ceremony because of winning in Montevideo 2011 the 62 South American Championship Bridge where Chile won in the Open and Ladies category.

I want to congratulate the Chile’s Sports Minister because he is doing a great job, investing resources transparently and efficiently, thus fulfilling the promise at the beginning of this government and thereby instilling in Chile sporting values.

The big winner of the night: Cristian Valenzuela, Para-Olympic gold in 5000 meters this year.
