Thank You Mr. Eduardo Rosen by Hanoi Rondon

Every organization requires people to keep it alive, moving, working. Bridge federations, clubs and/or associations are not different.

In fact, from my experience and in my opinion, bridge organizations seem to require more people working and helping to keep our sport afloat and healthy. Many such people exist in the Venezuelan Bridge Federation, but none of them with the traits of Eduardo Rosen.

In the mid 90’s, Eduardo Rosen took up the role of treasurer for the FVB. I arrived to the FVB in ’96 and from that moment I met him. He was always looking after his job and I was impressed at his protection of the monetary assets and his dedication at getting any job done.

But in my first years I was on the sidelines, watching everything from a distance. I used to complain along with many other people about the lack of air conditioning in a room, for example, not knowing the expenses our rented headquarters generated. Some time later I helped with the making of the Central American and Caribbean Championships and began to see the effort he dedicated.

I was also a witness to the personal dedication he put in acquiring the present headquarters, which are owned by the FVB, and that we all enjoy either for playing, teaching, learning or just hanging out; I witnessed some conversations in which he tried to convince people to support the idea economically and it could be said that he considered it a personal insult when someone said no.

You might think the FVB was his source of income but nothing could be further from the truth. The creative and vigilant force in Eduardo Rosen has given him economic success and many people that know him and have worked in any of his businesses can vouch for that.
eAt the beginning of the first decade of this new century Eduardo Rosen invited me to be his bridge partner. This was the start of a new adventure for me, and though we didn’t have the great success we expected, we grew up a little in bridge, reaching together the rank of Masters in the FVB. Eduardo was by this time the President (almighty) of our Federation. He created a campaign to make the game known and teach it and made me the Academic Director. Working at his side I could better see the personal passion he has for making the game of bridge grow.

Eduardo teaches classes at any level, he plays with people who can learn something from him, he’s worried about getting new students, he goes to government offices that support us financially to get the resources so that our teams and players can travel (especially the junior players team, his brainchild) and he solves everyday problems, too. All the new young players who have learned to play bridge and/or travelled abroad to represent our country have Eduardo’s determination, effort and dedication to thank for. And those who learn from now on will also have his signature somehow: The FVB has named the Bridge Academy with the well deserved name of “Eduardo Rosen”.

Unfortunately, the situation in Venezuela has in a way separated Eduardo from Venezuela. Much to his regret (and ours, too) he has to leave his post and although we expect the team he leaves behind to keep up his good work we know he is and will be sorely missed by all of us here, and in the same way we hope he has the same success in his new home!
Thanks You Eduardo!
