On-Line Results: Open – Women – Seniors All the results
In all the world championships between the boards of one of the rounds you can find several slams. Some are very hard to find, although there is always some team that reach them and receive a beautiful double digit swing in reward. The Round 7 of the RR that was played on Thursday, September 19th contained 25% of slam boards. Look what happened in the Open Championship:

Only a few arrived to the N/S 6 slam.  They were: Indonesia, Italy, Canada y Egypt, all of them scored 12 IMPs.  Perhaps a void in partner’s opening suit worked as a break for many players.  All the rest played 4…only one 3NT. |

Board 2

In this board, 13 of the 22 N/S played a diamond slam. The rest stayed in 3NT. From the results it appears that the old problem: Minor vs NT still is not completely solved today. South opened or mentions NT after a weak opening bid by East. |

Board 7

In this board, 12 of the 22 N/S played the spade slam. It seems that some players throw in the towel too early when they are void in partner’s opening suit. |

Only 4 E/W arried to the club slam: Indonesia, Brasil, Italia and USA2.  Here again appeared the old problem: Minor vs NT  After East’s 1NT opening bid, West transfered to club, expecting his partner answer: I like clubs vs I dont like clubs.  The ones who received a positive answer, arrived to slam, those who received a negative answer played 3NT.  The question is, why some players decided that Q J was enough for a positive answer and others decided that Q J wasnt enough? |
