10th Day: Lavazza vs Diamond in Vanderbilt final
Team Lavazza and the squad captained by John Diamond earned spots in the championship round of the Vanderbilt Knockout Teams with impressive wins. Diamond, originally seeded 16th, cruised to a 166-65 victory over No. 4 seed Martin Fleisher. No. 3 Lavazza took care of the dangerous No. 10 Assael squad with a 157-69 victory. Team Assael had staged huge fourth-quarter comebacks in the round of 16 and the quarterfinals, erasing 49- and 40-IMP deficits to win.

Schwartz with slim lead in Jacoby Open Swiss
The Richard Schwartz squad has a slim lead with eight matches to play in the Jacoby Open Swiss Teams. Schwartz is fielding the same team that lost in the round of 32 in the Vanderbilt Knockout Teams. Schwartz is playing with Allan Graves, Ron Schwartz, Lotan Fisher, Boye Brogeland and Espen Lindqvist. Their carryover score of 29.08 victory points puts them just ahead of Justine Cushing, Melih Ozdil, Gokhan Yilmaz, Valerie Giuboli and Leonardo Cima with 26.63 VPs. In third are Vinita Gupta, Billy Miller, Morten Bilde, Per-Olla Cullin, Dennis Bilde and Peter Bertheau with 26.03

Gamerman, Feller lead Fast Open
Lewis Gamerman of Randolph MA and Bob Feller of Bloomington IN will start play today in the NABC+ Fast Open Pairs with a carryover of more than two boards on a 25 top. Their score of 62.69 puts them 4.69 matchpoints ahead of Alexander Ornstein of New York City and Mel Colchamiro of Merrick NY.
In third with two final sessions to go are Christian Jolly and Andrew Cavalier of Huntsville AL with 52.96. In the Fast Open Pairs, players have 11 minutes to play two boards. Regular pairs games with twoboard rounds allow 15 minutes.
