MILNE (2) | 0 | 69 | 38 | 107 | |||
Since the first set Milne took the lead after some disagreements in the Lorentz team. The second set was really even until board 28, wherein the first big swing appeared.
Board 28
After two pass Griffiths (Milne’team) opened 1 and Marston chose to pass. Milne showed his weak hand with a 1NT bid and East’s 2 ended the bidding. Declarer made 10 tricks.
At the other table, after the two pass, Lambardi opened his hand with a 1 bid and South chose to show his heart suit.
After West’s club support, Hollands in North showed an invitational hand with 4 heart cards support.
Lambardi showed his spades, and Del’Monte accepted his partner invitation showing his second suit: diamonds.
Thomson supported his partner spades trying to stop the opps, but Hollands ignoring West bid, showed his A, Ishmael in South with a club void stopped in 5. All this shrapnel with only 19 points on the line… 🙄
Lead: Q
West made the first two tricks with his Q and J, and switched to a club.
Ishmael won the trick with dummy’s A, pitching one spade of his hand, to continue with a small diamond. Lambardi played a small one too, and Ishmael won the trick with his J. He ruffed his last spade in dummy and played a second small diamond, his 10 won the trick.
Now Lambardi’s heart singleton was discovered, so declarer played his K, and a second heart to dummy’s 10 and claimed his contract.
13 IMps for the Milne team, that added 17 IMPs before the end of the set…
