Monaco Wins the 51st European Team Championships Open Series

The 51st edition of the European Bridge Team Championships  finished in Dublin n, Ireland. As usual, the Championships comprised three series for Open, Women and Senior national teams.    Official Site: Click Here .

 June 23 2012: 

 Open Series: Monaco is the 2012 European Teams Champion, second arrived Netherlands and third Italy. The other qualified countries for Bali 2013 are: England, Poland and Germany.

 Women Series: England won the European Woman Team Championship, and with France, Turkey, Netherlands, Poland and Israel will play next World Championship, Bali 2013.

Seniors Series:  France is the new 2013 Champion. Poland, Scotland, Denmark, Germany and Belgium qualified and will play Bali 2013.

 10th Day, June 20 2012:  In the Open Series, Monaco maintained its lead over England, the latter losing a big match to Germany, who moved ahead of Italy. Israel and Russia swopped places, but they are hotly pursued by Bulgaria, Poland, Sweden and the Netherlands, the latter scoring an important win over Italy in the last match of the day. 

In the Senior Teams, France had an excellent day to jump into the lead. Germany also went past the overnight leaders, Denmark who drop to third.  Scotland moved into fourth, just ahead of Belgium and Sweden. The Women resume play today — with just four matches to go can anyone catch England?

8th Day, June 19 2012: The first RR is finished and the countries that continues the race are:

In Group A: Hungary was 8th before the last match, and won his last match 18-12 to Portugal, but it wasnt enough because, Greece who was 9th won his match: 24-6 and Norway who was 10th won his match: 25-1…and Hungary couldnt find a place between the first 9 countries.

In Group B: Wales was in the 10th position before the last round, only 3.5 VP from the 9th Iceland, but he lost the last match 21-9 and couldnt enter to the next RR. 

7th Day, June 18 2012: England held on to the top spot in the Women’s teams, but their lead has been reduced. Turkey has taken over
second place from France. Poland is fourth, followed by Israel and the Netherlands. In Group A of the Open series, Italy have taken over the lead, hotly pursued by Israel, Sweden, Bulgaria and Turkey. Germany is sixth, but no one can afford to relax. In Group B, Monaco scored a massive 74 VP to be way ahead of England, who saw the field close in on them. Russia, Romania, Netherlands and Poland, occupy the next four places.
In the Senior Teams, Denmark has moved clear and they are chased by Germany, France, Sweden, Bulgaria and Scotland.
With two rounds to go in the Open, all eyes will be on the teams hovering around ninth place. Nerves will play a part – who will be able to hold on to theirs and secure an all important spot in the race for the title? Watch this space!

6th Day, June 17 2012:  England and France maintained their positions at the top of the Women’s teams. Turkey has taken over third from Poland and these four are chased by Scotland and Israel.
In Group A of the Open series, Bulgaria is on top with Italy and Turkey tied for second. Israel, Sweden and Germany are still clear of the pack.
In Group B, Monaco increased its lead over England, who stay clear of Netherlands and Wales. France, Russia and Switzerland are tied for fifth.
With only two more days play to go in the Open series, attention will focus on the teams who are on the cusp for qualification. If one makes the dangerous assumption that the top eight teams in each group are able to maintain their positions then in Group A there are five teams who still have a realistic chance of finishing ninth. In Group B no less than 7 teams still have some hopes.

In the Senior Teams, Denmark and England are tied for the lead, just ahead of Belgium. Israel, Scotland and Norway are their closest pursuers.    Actual Results:  Click here

4th Day, June 15,  2012: Although the rain is unrelenting we have the consolation that the Seniors are now underway.
Two big wins consolidated undefeated England’s position at the top of the Women’s teams. Second placed France has a useful lead over Poland and these three are followed by Turkey, Scotland and Sweden.
In Group A of the Open series, the first six teams, Italy, Bulgaria,Turkey, Sweden, Israel, and Germany have opened up a significant gap.
In Group B Monaco is well ahead of England, who in turn are clear of Wales. France, Romania and Russia are tied for fourth and you can throw a blanket over the next four teams.
In the Senior Teams, Belgium and England are tied for the lead, just ahead of Scotland, Israel, Bulgaria and Sweden.

   6th Match:  Open Group B: France ended in the poll position the second day of the Championship with 114 VP, but now Monaco is second only 3 VP away with 111 VP, third is Island with 106VP and Russia and Netherlands are fourth. All the positions …Open Group B .  In the Group A, Israel  continues first with 117 VP,  one VP less is Sweden in the second position and only 2VP less is Italy third. All the positions … Open Group A

  5th Match:  Open Group B: France 106VP,  mantains the poll position and now the gap is 16 VP, the second Russia 90 VP,  third is Estonia with 89VP and fourth Monaco with 88 VP. All the positions …Open Group B

In Group A, Israel is first with 101 VP followed by Italy with 96 VP, Sweden 92 VP and Turkey 90VP … All positions … Open Group A

4th Match:  Open Group B: France is in the poll position and beguins to walk away from the rest of the participants with his 84 VP,  second is Denmark, 76 VP. Monaco one of the  favorites is  third with 70 VP followed by Russia with 69 VP. All positions …Open Group B

1st Match, Round Robin Qualifier: Only two teams won 25 VP in their matches: Italy

25-Portugal 1 and Sweden 25 -Scotland 5.

2nd Match: Sweden repeated his performance of 25 againsta Greece, which failed to score a single IMP. Italy tied with Hungary, a match that Italy was winning comfortably when Hungary in the final hands scored enaoug to get the tie.  Germany added 23 and 20 in his first two matches against Greece and Bulgaria respectively to stay in the second step, Israel with the same scores against Belgium and Latvia  shares the second place with Germany. Italy is third.

3rd Match Round Robin Qualifier: The Best 9 results are in the range of 65 to 50. Israel took the lead winning in his first three matches 20, 23 and 22 vs. Latvia, Belgium and Germany respectively. Bulgaria broke the meteoric rise of Sweden and with very good bridge won the battle 17 to 13. Italy was bye and added 18.

In Group B: At the end of the first 3 rounds: France is at the top with 64 VP, followed closely by Denmark, which has 62. Monaco is third with 54.
