d’Orsi Team wins the 2014 San Pablo Cup
Today in the San Pablo Bridge Club, was played the last stage of the 2014 Tasa de San Pablo final, played by the Carvalho and d’Orsi teams, the final standings were:

Board 1
After listening his partner 1 opening bid , Thoma begun to describe his hand with a 1 response. Campos showed his spade suit and Ravenna informed about his minimum hand with diamond support. Thoma made a forcing game call, a 2 cuebid, West doubled showing a good lead and North showed his spade stoppers with a 2NT call.
Thoma continued showing extra length in the trump suit, and the partnership begun to inform about their controls. Finally South asked for keycards, and continued asking for the kings when he found out they had all of them.
After listening that his partner had the K, South declared the Grand Slam. Campos led his K, declarer won witth the A and played the A, watching West pitching a spade. Thoma continued with the Q, West covered and declarer won with dummy’s A, played a heart to the J, continued with the A, ruffed a heart in dummy, pitched his spade loser in the K and claimed 13 tricks…
At the other table d’Orsi team chose to play slam, losing 11 IMPs. In board 2 Carvalho team added another 11 IMps defeating 4, made by Carvalho’s team.
In the next two boards d’Orsi added more than 23 IMPs recovering what was lost in the first two boards and something more.
Board 4
After two pass Villas Boas opened the bidding with 1, and mentioned his club suit after a spade response by his partner. Campos continued inviting to the NT game and West accepted.
Ravenna led his sixth spade, Thoma won with his A and returned his J, declarer won the trick with his K. Immediately Campos won two heart tricks, when South held up his heart ace. At this point declarer had 8 tricks so he continued developing his ninth trick in the spade suit and claimed his contract.
At the other table the bidding started exactly the same but over the 2 East’s rebid, West chose to sign off with 2…this decision ended the bidding and gave 10 IMPs to d’Orsi.
The set finished 52 to 51 for d’Orsi. In the last 16 boards Carvalho recovered 4 IMps…but wasnt enough.
