2nd Day: Egyptians hold narrow lead in Platinum Pairs
A pair from Egypt will start play today in the Norman Kay Platinum Pairs with a carryover lead of 3.67 matchpoints. The event continues today with two semifinal sessions. The leaders are Reda Wasfi Yaacoub and Wael Mohsen. Their carryover score of 334.45 puts them just ahead of Jie Li and Fu Zhong of China. In third, only 2.23 matchpoints behind second, are Louk Verhees Jr. of the Netherlands, playing with David Bakhshi of England. Just .05 behind them are Eric Greco, Wynnewood PA., and Geoff Hampson, Las Vegas NV. The event is open only to ACBL members who have accumulated at least 50 platinum masterpoints within the three calendar years prior to the event; earned at least 200 platinum masterpoints lifetime, or who have attained the rank of Platinum Life Master or Grand Life Master. Platinum masterpoints are available only in nationally rated events with no upper masterpoint restrictions.

Hand, Greenberg lead Lebhar IMP Pairs
With two sessions to go in the Lebhar IMP Pairs, Gail Greenberg and Jeff Hand have a lead of 4.59 IMPs over Stephen and Kerri Sanborn. Hand and Greenberg, of New York City, were plus 72.69 IMPs in the first qualifying session and followed with 46.31 in the second session. The Sanborns, of Delray Beach FL, were plus 73.12 in the first session, with 23.09 in the second. Right behind them, benefitting from a plus 77.05 effort in the first set, are Leo Bell of Long Beach CA and Dan Jacob of Vancouver BC. The best game of the day was posted by Iulian Christian of Bucharest, Romania, playing with Ahmed Rabie of Henderson NV. They scored plus 95.21 IMPs in the first qualifying session. Christian won the event last year playing with Radu Nistor. Jeovanni Salomao-Paulo Brum from Brazil qualified in the 11th position…
