The LAVAZZA – Associato Allegra team like last year, won the gold and is the new Italian Open Teams Champion: MARIA TERESA LAVAZZA (CNP) BOCCHI NORBERTO, BIANCHEDI ALEJANDRO, DUBOIN GIORGIO, ZANASI GABRIELE, DI FRANCO MASSIMILIANO, MADALA AGUSTIN.
The previous day, Lavazza was only 2VP ahead Angelini team. The two teams were almost the only ones left with chances to win the Gold. The last match for Lavazza played against the Pacini team and Lavazza won 84-36. With this result the Lavazza team showed its supremacy again. Must be very nice to win, but should be even nicer to win twice in a row a tournament regarded as the highest bridge level in Italy and that there were teams with top players from other countries.
Lets talk about some boards of this last Lavazza match.
Board 2
Severini opened with a 2 weak bid, Madala Pass and Bocchi opened showing his spade suit. With a heart cue bid, Madala showed his limited hand with spade support, Bocchi call the game.
 Lead: K
Bocchi played small from dummy and his hand. East continued with the Q, Bocchi won the trick with dummy’s ace and played the Q, West covered with his K and declarer lost the trick when he played a small diamond from his hand. West chose to return a diamond, Bocchi played his A and played Q, to East’s K and dummy’s A. Now Bocchi played a spade, the 10 and the Q won the trick. Declarer played the J and ruffed his last diamond in dummy. Another trump to West ace and declarer claimed 10 tricks.
The same contract was played at the other table, and the declarer received the same lead. Here declarer won the K with the A. But North made the mistake to play trumps first, which later prevented him to ruff a diamond loser in dummy and eventually had to lose his fourth diamond for one down.Â
Board 3
White Madala opened his hand with 4…and bought the contract. The opponentes with 28 points managed to make only 5 tricks.
At the other table South chose to open 3, Bianchedi reopened with double and Duboin said 3NT. Declarer hold up the first heart round and won the second. Opponents were incomunicated and so he could make 10 easy tricks for 630.
 Board 6
After Bianchedi’s pass, Muller opened 1, Duboin showed his diamond suit, Bombardier showed his two color hand with spades and clubs, Bianchedi passed again, Muller chose clubs and his partner decided to play 3NT.
Bianchedi led his singleton diamond, Muller played dummy’s 5 and West won the trick with his 7. Duboin left his hand playing the 9, declarer won and played a club. When Duboin played the K declarer played a small club hoping to find a friendly club layout.
Duboin insisted with another heart, declarer won the trick, played the Q e insisted with his last club, Duboin played his small club, South played the ace, and when Bianchedi produced a small club, the fate of the contract was sealed and declarer was 4 down. At the other table Bocchi, North, also played 3NT, but as in the bidding E/W didnt appear, East chose to lead his fourth heart.
Bocchi won the lead with the A and played a club, West played small, Bocchi too and East, made the mistake to play the queen and returned a heart. Again in dummy Bocchi played the last club, down the king, covered with the ace and 9 easy tricks.
Board 12 showed again the gap between the teams:
West | North | East | South | West | North | East | South | |

At one of the tables Bocchi opened his hand with a 3 bid, East showed his spades and Madala showed his incredible hand, Bocchi showed a solid club and Madala chose the cold club slam. At the other table after two pass, Bianchedi showed his spades at the two level, South doubled, and although he heard his partner repeat his clubs he chose to play the heart slam, he couldnt stop losing a spade, a heart and a club for two down…and 17 IMPs for Lavazza team.
