The American Contract Bridge League Tournament was near its end with the coveted Master Team Championship at stake.
Tension was high.
One team in the running was led by Alvin Roth of Washington and Tobias Stone of New York. (They finally tied for second place with three other teams.).
Partners Roth and Stone tiered on how they should have defended a -certain hand. They argued long and loud, nose to nose.
Finally a player from another table came over, shoved a book between their nearly touching noses and inquired:
«Would you boys like to settle the argument?»
There was an outburst of laughter.
The title of the book was «Al Roth on Bridge: The Roth-Stone System.»
