October 24: The 16 Ladies pairs will play one another 3 times, 90 boards during two days. 8 pairs will qualify for a 42‐board final played on Friday, October 25. For the 60 Open pairs, it’s a different story. Having played 50 boards on Wednesday and having another 50 more to play today Thursday, they will try to be ranked in the first 12 by the end of Day 2 in order to access the A Final. The last 48 will fight in the B final.
The same boards are played at the same time at every one of the 30 tables. Each score is compared 29 times in term of IMP, so if you are the only one to go down in a part score you can lose as much as 174 IMP: expensive!.
On the other hand, if you are the one who brings a small Slam home you collect more than 460 IMP over the field. Enough points to stay optimistic for a while. So you can examine the standings but do not conclude on the outcome too quickly!. Anyhow, the leaders are: for the Open, the Polish Gawel‐Jagniewski for the Ladies, the French Frey‐Hugon.
Monaco TV channel pays visit every day to the Cavendish. They were surprised to note Ladies players among men.
